A new Vietnamese eatery has opened in Kilbirnie opposite Pack’n’Save. Reading some of the information that they have on their website. The owner saw a gap in Vietnamese cuisine in Wellington, so they decided to set up this eatery. With my limited knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine, I would agree and be excited to try this place out.

Vietnameezy is mainly set up for takeaway meals. However, there is a bench you can sit at for about three people. Most of the food is in cabinets except for the báhn mì, pho and bao buns, which are made to order, but all the food looks super fresh and super enticing.

What immediately got my attention when I arrived at Vietnameezy, was their sandwich station. I felt that this place knew how to make a good báhn mì. It had all the ingredients easily accessible, waiting for someone to order one. Of course, I had to order one and got some summer rolls and beef salad. The beef salad was nice; it nicely cut fresh veggies, like cabbage and carrot and also had some coriander. The beef was super tasty, and the sauce was really good that you poured over. The summer rolls were good; I got one filled with salmon and the other with pork. I have never tried a summer roll with fresh salmon, and it was really nice, but I felt some other ingredients overpower the salmon flavour. The one different thing was the summer rolls were already pre-made and in the cabinet. There isn’t really anything like a freshly made summer roll.

The item I was most looking forward to was the báhn mì. One that was made to order and that you can see them make in front of you. First, they heat the roll to make it crisp, then add a good amount of pate, the four different types of meat, pickled vegetables, cucumber, coriander, and some maggie sauce. As I have only had a báhn mì in Melbourne, Sydney and New York, I feel, I have a limited understanding of báhn mì but a better one than if I have eaten one in New Zealand. Overall this is the best báhn mì I have had in Wellington, and nothing else compares to it. The only thing I feel is missing is the fresh chillis and the mayo. So I took it home and added some kewpie mayonnaise, which enhanced it, and unfortunately, I had no fresh chillis to use.

Overall, a great addition to the Wellington Vietnamese cuisine scene, and I will be going there often.
