I decided to be one of those people and try one of those food items that everyone is eating/ talking about at the moment. So I went to Daily Bread in the Auckland CBD to see if they had any of their custard slices still for sale. I was fortunate to see that they still had some, so I decided to get one and a flat white to go with it.

Firstly, the flat white. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this flat white was. They use Supreme coffee beans, and when it arrived, I was happy to see a dark crema around the edge of the cup. The flat white could have been the best that I have had in Auckland.

The custard slice. One of the great things about this custard slice is that you see this dark layer of raspberry jam at the bottom of the slice, and on top of it is this raspberry sherbet/sugar. The pastry is crisp and light, and I was too apprehensive to eat it as I didn’t want the custard to spell out when trying to break it apart. However, this is not my first custard slice. So I turned it on the side and cut pieces off that way. Eating this custard slice, I can see why it is very popular. It had a lovely tart raspberry flavour with this nice custard and wasn’t too sweet. The coffee complimented it very nicely. It was a great pastry to eat.
