My first meal in Taipei was a breakfast at Fu Hang Soy Milk. I did arrive in Taipei the day before. However, I was so full from my premium economy meals on Air New Zealand that I didn’t eat anything after the flight, however, with a bit of jet lag. I decided to try Fu Huang Soy Milk. This place opens at 5:30 am; however, I didn’t get there till 7 am, and there was already a line around the corner. I waited in line for just over 30 minutes and was able to get my food and find a seat. I

I ordered the cold soy milk, salty soy milk, and the signature thick bread with eggs and doughnut stick. I decided to go and try the salty soy milk first, which I surprisingly liked. The soy milk was curdled with vinegar, and coriander and fried bread were added for flavour and texture. The texture was exciting, like scrambled egg, and then you had the crunch from the fried bread. It was delicious and textually interesting.

The soymilk was good, potentially some of the best I have had. I am not overly a fan of it, but I thought I should try it. The more I drank it, the more I seemed to enjoy it. Next was the signature thick bread with eggs and doughnut stick. This was interesting, a real carb-heavy snack. The bread was really nice, the doughnut stick was nice and crisp with good flavour, but the star of the show was definitely the egg with spring onions in it. Tie it all together, and it was a very hearty breakfast. I did wish, though, that I added some chilli to it. LOL.

Overall, is it worth the hype? I am not sure. It was good. It was tasty. It was Yum. However, I am not entirely sure if it is worth the wait. It’s something that you should try. If you are in Taipei as it is Taipei famous. However, I have become less of a breakfast person and would have preferred a good congee. Also, if you don’t want to wait in line, you can order the food through the website Klook.com and it will give deliver you a set menu to your hotel.
