Another popular eatery in the Ximen area. The line for this place is consistent and long compared to the other eateries on the street in the area. With some research, I discovered that they are popular due to their oyster, omelette, braised pork rice, and turnip cakes. I decided, as it was a shorter line than previous nights, to try this place. Thankfully, they have an English menu that you can use as a reference.

I ordered the braised pork rice with an egg and the oyster omelette. The food came pretty fast after I had been given a seat. The braised pork with the egg came first, and I was more impressed with this dish compared to the braised pork rice dish I had at Wang’s Broth. The pork had more seasoning and flavour, and the additional egg lifted the dish more. However, if you compare the two and add the pork belly to Wang’s Broth braised pork rice, Wang’s Broth wins in my opinion.

The oyster omelette I liked. However, I wasn’t overly impressed with it. The omelette was nicely cooked, which meant it was undercooked. The oysters were not overdone, and this sweet tomato sauce poured on top and some green vegetables underneath the omelette. I feel that New Zealand has better quality oysters, and so this is why the dish didn’t impress me overly. However, if you combined it with their braised pork rice, it was a good combination of flavours.

Overall, not a bad place to eat. Yes, you have to line up for a while, and while lining up, you get given a piece of paper on which you mark down what you want to eat. Thankfully, they also gave me an English menu to help me mark down what I wanted. You then return your marked piece of paper and pay for your food. Then, once a seat is available, you get directed to sit down, and your food comes out pretty fast. Also, by the by, the eatery is jammed with tables and seats; you sit next to strangers, and there is hardly any room to move. You don’t go for the social aspect of dining, but I suppose that is what cheap dining is about.
