This place is another Michelin guide-recommended eatery. However, this place is just a food stall with seats and stalls that they placed on the footpath. Today, there was a bit of a queue, but it was shorter than expected. There is a menu at the counter with English written on it. However, there are no other menus to work out what to order.

I decided to order three dishes and give them a try: the Taiwanese Burger: 刈 包, Savoury Rice Pudding: 麻豆碗粿 and Soy-stewed pork with rice: 焢肉飯. The sitting is very limited, but somebody is working the tables and sharing tables with strangers is considered normal. People only seemed to order two dishes, the pork rice and the Taiwanese burger.

Once I had got my food and a seat, I started with the savoury pudding first. I would say this is like a Chinese turnip cake but without turnip, but inside, there is some beef and an egg yolk. Poured on top is this thick gravy with pork bits and some pickled vegetables and, overall, a very delicious plate of food.

Next was the Taiwanese burger minus the peanuts. I have to say, this is the best bao bun I have eaten. The pork was super soft and melted in your mouth. It had a good amount of coriander (which I usually don’t like), and their pickled Chinese mustard green complimented everything else so well, giving the bao this lovely tangy flavour—bloody good.

Lastly was the soy-stewed pork with rice. In the bowl, there was this piece of pork belly, pickled cucumber, pickled mustard greens and some tofu. This was a true foodgasm. Everything worked so well. It was so yummy. I loved the contrast of the different elements. The freshness of the pickled cucumber, the tasty soy flavour and melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, the pickled mustard greens and the beautifully cooked tofu were just outstanding.

The food here was just unbelievable and so cheap. Definitely not the cleanest, but when food is this good, and no insects or rodents are running around, who cares? This place is well deserving of its Michelin guide recommendation. I wish I had time to have this again.
