A new Espresso & Wine bar has opened on Allen Street off Courtenay Place, from what I presume from the same people as Food Envy. The fit out of the space is contemporary. However, I was surprised with the location because the space had never been used since the building was refurbished in the late 1990s. It used to be a wide walkway, and Glou Glou has installed a counter with an espresso machine and is also using the Atrium space, which has not been permanently used for a very long time.

I am not sure if Glou Glou has a liquor license yet. However, they are selling coffee, tea and other drinks. However, their main draw card is their pastries, which are not made on-site. A great section of pastries that have a contemporary spin to them. Most are based on croissant dough, but they also sell cookies, brownies and a Portuguese tart. I decided to get a selection of some, and I have to say their Portuguese tart is one of the best I have had. I loved the flaky pastry; the egg custard is not too sweet, and I just wish that they served it warm. I also tried their blueberry cheesecake croissant cube and their tiramisu coffin, each being very good.

I only got the stuff takeaway this time, and the place seems very popular. Currently, through their Instagram account, they are keeping people up to date on when their goods get dropped into the cafe, and it will be interesting to see if they will continue this. I also discovered they make crumpets, so I may have to try them the next time I visit.

Overall, it is a great place to visit on that side of town. I wonder if they will change their offerings regularly or if they will generally keep them the same. Only time will tell; hopefully, it will be a mainstay in Wellington for years to come.
