I have never tried deep-dish pizza before, and it intrigued me. There was a place in Fitzroy that was rated highly, so I decided to give it a try. As it was lunchtime on a weekday, they only served slices, which I was fine with as it was just me trying it.

I ordered The Quod Style Chicago Deep Dish: Pepperoni and their Rotating Special Detroit-style pizza slice, which was a Wagyu Brisket, Mozzarella, cheddar, heirloom tomato salsa, roast corn, cilantro pesto, feta and a dipping of dunking jus.

I loved how the Wagyu beef taco slice had a sauce that you dunked your pizza into. It went perfectly with the pizza slice. I also loved how thick the base was and how crispy it was at the bottom. The dough was kind of like a focaccia but with pizza filling on top. The wagyu beef was really nice with the mozzarella, salsa, and feta. I also loved the kick of spice from the dipping sauce and in the pizza. The edges were super crisp, and I just loved this version of a pizza.

The deepest was also very good. It was filled with tomato sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, which also had a good kick to it. The crust was crisp, and the cheese was crisp around the top. I loved the combination of the burnt crisp cheese with the pepperoni and the tomato sauce. I even dipped some with the dunking sauce from the other pizza, and it went really well.

Overall, it was a great place to eat pizza. I had not eaten deep-dish or Boston-style pizza before, and I was impressed. I really do need to put Chicago on my travel list, check it out, and see what deep-dish tastes are like. Some people say it isn’t a pizza but more like a pie, and I can see why people may say that. However, this place was a great place to introduce me to these styles of pizzas and both are very different to the NYC version.
