Fried chicken was what we decided to have tonight. So decided to give Lowbrow a try on K. Road. The kitchen is set up in a small shop, and they use the open promenade to allow customers to have food there with seats and tables. It is a great space but I do wonder what the place is like when the weather is cold and the wind is blowing.

I had already set my sights on the fried wings for tonight, but I knew they wouldn’t be enough on their own, and I didn’t feel like having fries. Originally leaning towards a sandwich or burger, I reconsidered since I was already having wings. Instead, I went for their MacDaddy: a grass-fed beef brisket patty topped with shredded iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese, and mac sauce.

The burger was fantastic. It was incredibly fresh and simple yet packed with flavour. The patty had a slightly pink centre, the lettuce was crisp, the bun was toasted just right, and the mac sauce tied everything together with the cheese. The presentation was spot on, stimulating your senses before taking the first bite.

For the wings, I tried two with Lowbrow Original, their signature flavour, and two with Mild and Smokey seasoning, which was medium on heat but high on smoke. I opted against going hotter since I was about to enjoy Ali Wong’s comedy and didn’t want to feel uncomfortable while laughing hysterically. The Mild and Smokey seasoning was decent but lacked depth and could use more flavour. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the Lowbrow Original seasoning; it had a slight sweetness that complemented the chicken wings perfectly.

Overall, this could be my favourite Fried Chicken joint in Auckland. If I have an opportunity, I will go back. The food was super fresh and presented well.
