I came across Pie Rolla’s on social media, where it was hailed as one of the best pie spots in Auckland. After some digging, I found that many others agreed, so I decided to check it out. This relatively new hole in the wall aims to make high-quality pies accessible to everyone, with a commitment to excellence and no shortcuts.
When I arrived, there was a small line, and the person ahead of me ordered ten pies—pretty impressive! Just four weeks after opening, they’ve already doubled their production from about 60 to nearly 120 pies, all while selling from a window with no seating and minimal rain cover.

I ordered the Brisket, Jalapeño & American Cheese pie, served with mash and gravy. I didn’t think much about where I’d eat it, but I managed just fine. The mash was smooth, and the gravy was flavorful. But let’s be honest—the star of the show is the pie itself. The pastry was wonderfully flaky yet dense, clearly made with plenty of butter. The brisket was generous, and the combination of jalapeño and American cheese was fantastic. Overall, this pie was absolutely worth the $15.
I can’t wait to go back for another (or two). I was tempted to grab a second pie but ran out of time. Definitely worth a visit, but make sure you always blow on the piece and have better work stories.
I’ll probably be dreaming about the pie for a while!
