I visited Taste of Fiji for the first time in Newtown, and I had no idea this gem existed until I was searching for dining options in the area. It turned out to be a special night, as they had a large party dining in, and so they also offered a buffet for customers who just walk in—something they only do when there’s a bigger booking. For just $35, I thought trying a variety of their dishes was an amazing deal.

We started with some appetisers: crispy fried fish, deep-fried cassava, and chickpea fritters. All of them were delicious, but the fried fish really stood out. The batter had a nice bit of spice, giving it extra flavour.

Next were the curries. The spread included Aloo Matar, chicken curry, lamb curry, curry with cabbage, and goat curry. There was also spinach in coconut cream and some fresh roti. The goat curry was definitely my favorite—packed with flavor, perfectly spiced, and tender. The spinach with coconut cream was creamy and comforting, and the Aloo Matar had a lovely, warming taste.

All in all, it was a fantastic dining experience. The buffet option was a real treat, and the service was top-notch. It’s great to see more ethnic food options in Newtown, and I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their offerings. Just be aware that it is not the most tidy of places, but the food is divine.
