After visiting Hiroshima, we returned to the area near our hotel and started looking for a place to eat. I came across a ramen restaurant with a unique twist—it offered duck as part of the ramen. Seating was minimal, so we had to wait a short while to get in. Fortunately, no one was ahead of us, so it wasn’t an issue.

Once inside, we encountered an ordering machine that was entirely in Japanese. Thankfully, the front-of-house staff helped translate some of the options, and I also used a translation app to guide us.

I decided to try the Duck Dashi Soy Sauce Ramen and ordered a side of char siu on rice. As expected, the food arrived quickly after we were seated. To my surprise, the ramen bowl included slices of char siu in addition to the duck. The soy-based broth was crystal clear, light, and delicious, pairing beautifully with the firm noodles. The char siu had a texture and flavour reminiscent of bacon but wasn’t quite the same. The highlight, however, was the slice of perfectly cooked duck, which complemented the soup and noodles exceptionally well.

The bowl also featured grilled leek, an egg, and bamboo shoots. The grilled leek added a smoky depth to the broth, which I really enjoyed, while the egg and bamboo shoots rounded out the dish perfectly. The soy flavour was prominent but clean and lighter than a tonkatsu-based broth.

The char siu on rice was equally impressive. The pork was grilled over an open flame, giving it a delightful barbecue flavour that paired wonderfully with the rice. Half an egg in the bowl was a great touch, and I loved mixing it in with the pork and rice. Toward the end of the meal, I added some of the soy-based ramen broth to the rice bowl, which elevated its flavour and brought everything together beautifully.

Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. The service and the staff were friendly, and the food was outstanding. The duck in the ramen was a standout element, and the soy-based soup offered a refreshing change from the heavier tonkotsu broths. This is an excellent spot for a bowl of soy-based ramen.
