I had a bit of time to spare and needed something quick to eat, so I visited Publique. I wasn’t sure they’d be open since it was a Monday, but luckily, they were, with a few people sitting outside enjoying their baked goods. It was tough to decide whether to order, but I ended up ordering the Reuben croissant and an almond croissant.

Biting into the Reuben croissant, I was surprised by how soft the pastry was—and even more surprised by the sweetness. I was expecting something savoury, but the croissant had a subtle sweetness, like there was strawberry jam worked into the dough. It threw me off a little, as I’d expected more of that classic salty, tangy Reuben flavour.

The almond croissant, on the other hand, was a standout. It seemed to have been twice-baked—super crisp on the outside with a creamy interior. The almond filling was well balanced, not too sweet or strong, just right.

Once again, I was impressed. Publique continues to offer some really interesting flavour combinations in its cabinet. This time around, I kept things relatively safe, having learned from my last visit that their chocolate and almond croissants can be a bit too rich for my taste. So, I stuck with the almond croissant and wasn’t disappointed.
