Back up in Auckland for a few days, I decided to swing by Sneaky Snacky. I’d been there once before and had a craving for some good American-style fried chicken. Since I was already on K Road, it made sense to pop in for a bite.
This time, I went with the Mac and Cheese Hot Burger and added on two Hot Chicken Wings. When my order was ready, I was genuinely taken aback by how massive the piece of chicken in the burger was—it was huge. Despite waiting a while for my food, I had to wait even longer for the chicken to cool down once I sat down, which wasn’t ideal as I was already starving.
I started with the wings, and as expected, they were solid. I really appreciate that Sneaky Snacky provides gloves—it can get messy, and I like to eat fried chicken with my hands. I opted for the medium seasoning, but to be honest, it didn’t bring much heat. Still, the seasoning was delicious in itself. I also loved the pickles that came with it. One odd thing, though—the slice of bread underneath the wings was super thin and heavily coated in icing, which wasn’t really my thing.

As for the burger, the fried chicken was seasoned really well and had an ultra-crispy coating—pretty sure they double-fry it. Everything came together nicely: the soft brioche bun, the creamy mac and cheese (though I could’ve used a bit more), and the sauces all worked in harmony. Overall, it was a super satisfying burger.
All in all, Sneaky Snacky remains a solid spot for fried chicken on K Road. It’s no surprise that it still ranks highly as one of the best cheap eats in Auckland. Prices are creeping up, sure, but the food holds up. Don’t expect much in terms of customer service—you order at a screen and get notified when your food’s ready. The food court’s décor is a bit dated and could use a refresh, but the food more than makes up for it.
