Let’s Yum Cha is one of the more highly rated dim sum spots around the Mong Kok and Prince Edward area. I hadn’t been in a while, and since I was back in Hong Kong, I figured it was the perfect chance to enjoy some good dim sum.

When I arrived, there were already people waiting outside. I went in to grab a number and ended up waiting about 20–25 minutes. Since I was dining alone, I was seated at a shared table with two other diners, which made me feel like a bit of a glutton because I ordered just as many dishes as they did.

While waiting, I filled out my order slip. I went with shrimp dumplings (har gow), prawn and pork dumplings (siu mai), a cordyceps flower soup dumpling, and rice rolls with prawns and deep-fried dough.

Once seated, I rinsed my dishes with tea and waited about five minutes before the food arrived. My first surprise: everything was molten hot. I’m not used to yum cha being this fresh, since in New Zealand the dumplings are usually pushed around on trolleys rather than made to order.

After letting things cool for a moment, I dug in. The shrimp dumplings were delicious, with a lovely, delicate wrapper. The siu mai were also excellent, and I especially enjoyed the pop of flavor from the fish roe on top. The soup dumpling was packed with large prawns, and the mushroom-based broth was delicious. Finally, the prawn and deep-fried dough rice rolls were excellent, filled with corn, carrots, and a few other bits that added great texture.

This place is clearly popular—and for good reason—as a food site. The Service is speedy, and they clear your plates pretty fast as soon as you finish with them. You’re not necessarily going to get a smile, but it works. This place is jam-packed and pretty small, but it makes delicious food. Highly recommend this place.
