Hashtag B had been popping up on my social media for a while, so I finally decided to give it a try. I went in with fairly high expectations since many people compare it to Bakehouse.

I visited their Mong Kok branch, and it wasn’t as busy as I expected—which isn’t necessarily a bad sign. I ordered the Napoleon tart, the pistachio tart, the Irish cream tart, and a classic pineapple bun.

The pineapple bun was actually really good: soft, fluffy bread with a crisp, buttery, sugary crust. The Napoleon tart was also very nice—slightly sweeter than I expected, but with a crisp, flaky base that I enjoyed. The Irish cream tart was another pleasant surprise, with a layer of Irish cream at the bottom that added a fun twist without making a mess. Finally, the pistachio tart—apparently their signature item—left me a bit disappointed. It just didn’t quite do it for me.

Overall, it’s not a bad bakery, but it feels a little overhyped. The pineapple bun was great, and the Irish cream tart was my favourite of the bunch. Apparently though the tarts are meant to be a combination in an egg tart and a mille-feuille, which I now get. It’s a convenient location, but I don’t think I’ll be rushing back anytime soon, which is a bit of a shame.
