Ki’son left such a strong impression on me during my last visit that I knew I had to return. It felt a bit strange being back in Hong Kong only five months after my previous trip, but I couldn’t stop thinking about their roast goose. This time, I arrived hungrier than before and decided to order their set menu for one, which includes vegetables, a drink, rice or noodles, and a choice of roast meats.

I went with the roast goose and roast pork combination, served with rice, vegetables, and a can of Coke. The roast goose was, as expected, excellent—surprisingly not too fatty and full of flavour, especially the thinner slices. The roast pork was delicious as well: the crackling was incredibly crisp, and the meat was tender with those beautiful layers of fat and lean pork. The vegetables were nicely cooked and well seasoned with oyster sauce, though I was surprised by how soft they were compared to the crispier texture I’m used to.

I’m thrilled I came back to try the roast goose again and sample their roast pork. I was also surprised to see that they actually cook the meats on-site—you can sometimes see the ovens when the back door opens. For some reason, I had assumed they might cook everything off-site and bring it in. It’s impressive to think about how much meat they must prepare daily to keep up with demand.

Overall, it’s a fantastic place to eat, and I only wish I could enjoy it more often.
