I was wandering around the streets of Uji and started to feel hungry, as I hadn’t eaten anything yet, so I decided to stop by a small bakery I came across.
I picked up a green tea melon bread and what appeared to be a matcha chocolate croissant. If you’ve never had melon bread before, it’s somewhat similar to a Chinese pineapple bun, though this version was filled with cream. The topping also seemed to have a bit more sugar, giving it a crispier texture. The matcha melon bread was delicious and made for a great start to the day.

The matcha chocolate croissant, however, was my favourite of the two. It was filled with a lightly sweetened matcha cream, topped with chocolate, and finished with a dusting of matcha powder. It felt quite decadent for a morning treat.
Overall, it was a very cool little bakery with its own unique twist. I was tempted to try a few more items, but I wanted to continue exploring other spots. They also bake what looked like some excellent Western-style breads, which would definitely be worth coming back for.
