I decided to spend some time exploring Uji, mainly to check out the matcha and green tea varieties, as this region is well known for its green tea production. I came across a few great spots for snacks and places to buy matcha and green tea. Although Uji is a tiny town, it offers quite a lot, including several temples worth visiting, such as Byōdō-in.
When lunchtime came around, I did a bit of searching and decided to try Japanese curry at Uji Western Food Curry. The restaurant was highly rated and makes its own curry sauce, which immediately caught my attention.

I ordered the pork cutlet with curry sauce, and it was perfect. The curry had rich, enjoyable flavours, and while the pork cutlet was slightly tougher than other katsu I’ve had, it was still very satisfying.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad place to eat at all. I was fortunate to get a seat, as it was pretty busy even for a winter’s day, which made me wonder how crowded it must be during peak tourist season. The service was simple but good, and the overall dining experience was pleasant.
