I arrived in Harajuku thinking I’d start walking right away, but it took about 40 minutes to get there from the hotel, and I started to get a bit hungry. I don’t usually eat breakfast, so I decided to grab a doughnut. Not the healthiest choice, I know — but as they say, everything in moderation.
By 11:20 a.m., there was already a long line for I’m Donut. Interestingly, the Google rating for this place isn’t particularly high, which I find hard to understand given how many people are willing to line up and wait for these doughnuts.
I ordered two doughnuts: one made to order and served warm, and one matcha doughnut. From the end of the line, it took about 20 minutes to get my order — not amazing, but not terrible either.

The first bite of the made-to-order doughnut was heavenly. The dough was incredibly soft, not overly sweet, and had a fantastic texture. Some people might say it’s undercooked, but I thought it was absolutely delicious. The matcha doughnut also impressed me. It was less sweet and had a more earthy flavour, making it easier to eat. It had the same soft texture as the made-to-order doughnut, although it wasn’t served warm.
Overall, I can see why so many people line up for these doughnuts. Are they worth waiting a long time for? Not really. But if you have the time and want to try a genuinely good doughnut, I’d say it’s worth the experience. For me, it’s less about the wait time and more about the act of enjoying the moment. Sometimes people need to slow down, relax, and enjoy the experience — even the waiting — without needing constant stimulation.
