I decided to spend my last day in Akihabara wandering to see if anything caught my eye for shopping or sights. I also had one clear goal in mind: to finally try some Japanese pancakes. While I was in the area, I did a quick Google search and came across The French Toast Factory, located on the eighth floor of a nearby department store. I arrived just after opening at 11 a.m., and about half the tables were already occupied.
I ordered the FTF Sisters along with a side of fried chicken. The fried chicken arrived first, and it definitely wasn’t what I’d consider traditional Southern-style fried chicken. Instead, it tasted much more like Japanese karaage and was even served with a wedge of lemon. As karaage, it was pretty tasty, but if it’s meant to be Southern fried chicken, it misses the mark by a long way. That said, it didn’t taste bad with the syrup—just not a pairing that quite worked.

The FTF Sisters consisted of two fluffy pancakes and half a slice of French toast, served with fresh cream, fresh fruit, and a sprinkle of cookie crumble. The pancakes were incredibly fluffy, and the French toast had a nice light texture. They both worked beautifully with the fresh fruit, cookie crumbs, and syrup. It was genuinely impressive and hit the spot perfectly.
Overall, the pancakes were excellent. I was also happy to find a dish that allowed you to try both their pancakes and French toast together, which felt like the best of both worlds. The service was excellent, and it was clear that this place is popular with locals, many of whom were there specifically for the pancakes and French toast.
