I was in Tamaki Makaurau over the weekend to do some mahi for an organisation I chair. Some of the committee needed some breakfast, so someone suggested Little French Cafe and off we went. Little French was actually flooded in 2023 due to Cyclone Gabrielle but has managed to reopen, which is a good sign, especially compared to the New World Fresh Collective, which is still being worked on.

Little French Cafe has lots of delights you can order at the counter, but there is also a menu you can order from. So we sat down, and someone came to our table and took our order. I decided to try their Croque Madame and a small flat white. The flat white was good, it was a double shot, but I did want a bit more coffee/bitterness to my flat white. The Croque Madame was really good. A really good amount of side salad, and the sandwich with the cheese, ham, fried egg and bechamel sauce with the toasted bread was on point. Then you add a bit of the side tomato chutney, and you have a real winner here. Really tasty and really filling. I also got an Almond croissant to go and ended up having it for dinner. This was a standout, and I loved the almond paste inside.

Overall everyone was super impressed with the food. The service was really good, except that it did take a while for the kitchen to get our food out. One thing that did surprise me was the wording of the coffee sizes, starting from small to medium to large. Instead of regular, medium and large. Did the Little French Cafe purposely change the wording so their customer would not buy a small? Even though any size larger than a small/regular, it just means more milk, not coffee. Interesting marketing is all I have to say.
