I don’t know how this place came up in my search, but after doing some further research, I discovered just how popular it is. It isn’t the easiest place to find, as it’s tucked inside a shop with several different craft stalls. I actually walked straight past it at first. The shopfront is easy enough to spot, but you need to walk toward the back of the building before you discover La Birria Tacos.

When I arrived, the customer service wasn’t necessarily the best. I had to wait quite a while before the three people cooking the food even acknowledged me. Admittedly, they were busy preparing orders, most of which seemed to be for food delivery. Still, a simple acknowledgement would have been appreciated. Once one of the staff members had a little more time, he finally acknowledged me and said, “Just give me a few more minutes.” I couldn’t help but giggle to myself.

When he was ready to take my order, I went with the Signature Quesa Birria Tacos and the Sambal Belacan Fish Taco. I also paid an extra $4 for a Lime Jarritos and a bag of corn chips.

To my surprise, my food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Given how busy they seemed, I didn’t expect it to come out that quickly.

And wow, it looked good! I couldn’t wait to dive in. The fish taco came with a nice, generous piece of fish, while the melted cheese on the Quesa Birria Tacos looked absolutely delicious.

First up was the fish taco, and instantly you get a hit of sambal. The fish was perfectly cooked and not oily, while the crispy red onion worked so well with the sauce and fish. The tortilla seemed like it was house-made, light, soft, and the perfect base. Add a squeeze of lime, and this was absolutely delicious.

Next was the Quesa Birria. The cheese was nicely burnt, adding a really lovely savoury flavour to the taco. The birria was tender and packed with flavour. Then you dip the whole thing into that sauce, and I was in taco heaven. Everything just worked so well together.

Overall, these were some of the best tacos I’ve had. Everything tasted fresh and house-made. I also forgot to mention the taco chips, they seemed to be fried in-house, and I added a few to the fish taco with the sambal. The extra crunch added a great texture and took it to another level.

Overall, a great place to eat. Simple, fresh, and done really well.
