I have seen quite a few things written about Wellington Sourdough and have been fortunate to try their different types of Sourdough. However, I have never managed to get into their Bread Kitchen Starta, where you can purchase their bread but also obtain some of the other baked goods and have a coffee while sitting down in their premise.
As my food adventures continue over the summer break, I decided to have a late breakfast, (can’t call it brunch, as it sounds weird when you are with yourself). I was very surprised by the interior of the shop as it feels like there is a lot of natural light coming into the shop. However, there are no actual windows where the light can come in. The place is very open and you would forget that you are actually in an alleyway.
The service here is very good and it looks like they really on top of their game and they really care about their service and who they serve. The flat white I ordered was very good and I was pleased to see they use Supreme Coffee beans.
I heard somewhere that I must try their toasted brioche with lemon curd and mascarpone and I was not disappointed. Their brioche was light and nicely toasted and the combination of the lemon curd and mascarpone is a real winner. I also got an Almond Croissant takeaway and “Hell to the Yeah”. This Almond Croissant goes straight to the number one slot for best Almond Croissants in Wellington. It was crisp, with nice toasted almonds on top. A good amount of almond butter and was soft and moist inside. Also, the base of the croissant had a nice slight toffee taste and texture to it.
This place could be my favourite bakery in Wellington. They also sell other pastries and also sell sandwiches using their own bread. As I said the service here is good and the layout is awesome especially as it is hidden in the depths on Left Bank Lane. I will be back, it just depends when.
