Found myself in North Shore visiting a some family and we were originally going to go to the Night Market but ended up at Xi’am Food Bar instead of hand pulled noodles. There were quite a few of us and the place is not necessarily the cleanest but my cousin did say that the food is good. So if that is the case, I overly don’t really care. All of it is self-service except the food comes to you, so you order at the counter and even have to make your own tea, but it is cheap because they don’t have to pay for the extra staff.
We ordered an assortment of dishes. The Hand Pulled Noodles with Stir-Fried Pork Mince (middle right), Hand Pulled Noodles with Xi’an Styled Braised Pork (front), Hand Pulled Noodles with Cumin Lamb (middle left)and Pork and Chive Dumplings in Sour Soup (back). First off the noddles are really good and they also come with cooked cabbage. The Pork Mince noodle is very much the traditional main dish and was really nice with the freshly shredded cucumber. The sauce at the bottom mixed with the pork mince was really good. The Braised pork was also a real winner but was the sweetest of all the bowls. The cumin lamb was my favourite because of how spicy it was and the lamb was nicely cooked. Finally the dumplings, may of been the best pork chive dumplings with sour soup I have tried. The skins weren’t too thick and the filling was really nice.
Overall, the food is f’in good and it is cheap. There are other branches around Auckland and I would like to see how they compare to this one. However, this was good. Food is fast, the service is crap, but I am not here for the service just for really good pulled noodles.
