Luna Bakehouse has been getting some attention due to its soft serve being served inside a croissant. Who would have thought people would go for this kind of thing. Primary Luna is a bakery baking most things out of croissant dough, including your plain croissants, pain au chocolat and almond croissants. However, they have also made variations of flavoured croissants (sweet and savoury) and cruffins. I wonder if the name Luna is taking inspiration from another bakery in Melbourne with a similar name.
I was at their Newmarket store and ordered their soft serve, inspired by the flavours of a biscoff and a Chocolate almond croissant. To be honest, this place is a bit of a gimmick. I may seem a bit harsh. I love the idea of a soft serve being served in a croissant, but it just doesn’t work for me. The soft serve was good, and I loved the biscoff flavour, but having a croissant as a cone just didn’t do it for me. Maybe because I felt the croissant was ok. I felt the croissant lacked what a good croissant should be. It tasted slightly stale and lacked the crunch a good croissant should be.

The almond chocolate croissant was OK. It was overbaked for my liking as it looked and tasted slightly burnt. The filling was good, but I missed the potential richness of the almond filling, and the chocolate tasted like it had more coco than it should have. I think what was really missing from everything was the lack of butter. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning, but they have made a market for themselves and well done to them.
