Found myself liking for some food in Auckland CBD and decided to look for a cheap eat. Found the Metro magazine cheap eats lust online and this was the only one that made it on this year’s list in the CBD. Surprisingly when I walked into this place it looked really clean and tidy. The menu is extensive but for singe strange reason there are not roast meats with rice on the menu but I saw other people eating it, so I went with my gut and ordered something, not on the menu.
Deep Fried Squid
This was entirely different than I expected. I did not expect sweet chilli sauce and I did not expect the said to be so light in flavour. However, the squid did work with the sweet chilli sauce. The batter on the squid was light and crisp. The squid was far too tender for my liking but it worked and for $5 can you really complain.
Roast Duck and Roast Pork on rice
This was an impressive dish compared to Wellington standards as it was full of roast meats and was only $14. The roost pork had nice crispy skin and was really nicely seasoned and was great with the rice and the sauce that was added to the rice. The roast duck was also good and not over seasoned and quite lean with good chunks of meat from the meatier parts of the duck. Overall a really good dish.
The food here is really good, but the menu is so extensive I am not sure how good it actually is. Would I go back? Yes, I would. The service is good and the food came out fast. It is very clean for a Chinese Restaurant that is not expensive and there would be a lot of other dishes I would like to try.
