Went back to Comes and Goes twice in one week. The first time, I felt like something different from the cafes in Wellington for brunch.  So I decided to make the mission out there for brunch. I asked Betty Boop if she wanted to come as she loves brunch and thinks it is the best meal of the day. The second time was there for dinner with Pappa Bear.


Buns (Gua Bao)


Pork Belly Braised in Gong Sauce, Bok Choy, Coriander, Cucumber & Peanuts (Minus)

I was surprised to see this arrive in the bao and a very different approach to serving this. However, because of the amount of filling the bowl is a good way of serving it. The bun was hot to touch but nice and soft. There were two nice thick pieces of nicely cooked tender pork belly. The bok choy was cooked and tasted as if it was slightly pickled, which was a nice approach. Overall this a great bao and I loved how there was a slight amount of juice coming out of the boa, which kept it moist and not dry.

Deep Fried Whole Fish of the Day (Taraki) served with Chilli Sauce


This looked really nice when it arrived and I loved that there was some lime provided on the side. The fish was nicely cooked and the sauce complimented the fish really nicely. I loved all the finely sliced elements on top of the fish but I do wish that the waitress recommended some rice when ordering this dish as it was needed as at times it was too salty.


I also tried the Twice Cooked Short Rib with Black Bean Sauce and it was really good. The meat was really tender and flavoursome. I must try! I also tried the Larb, this was good but not as good as the fish or the short rib.


Cured Salmon Tartare


Salt and Sugar-cured Salmon, Red Onion, Gherkin, Dill, Paprika Oil, Capers, 36-degree Cooked Egg, Cream Cheese, Red Radish, Almond & Lemon Wedge with Rye Bread.

Didn’t really know what I was going to expect when ordering this, but I was glad I did. I loved the thick piece of rye bread and a generous amount of cured salmon with the 36 degrees (Celcius) cooked egg on top. The cured salmon was really nicely seasoned and the cream cheese really complimented it. I loved the gherkin and the pill in the salmon, the almonds gave the dish some different texture and the egg just made the dish awesome. The rye bread was nice and thick and toasted and was great how you mix it with everything else.

Coconut Milk with Espresso


I this was a nice cold drink. The espresso with the coconut milk was really nice and a great drink. I would of, however, liked the espresso to be strong to give the drink a bit more depth and kick.


The service here is really good and I was really impressed by how fast the food came out both times. Betty Boop really liked her first visit here. Pappa Bear not so much as he is very “old skool” and not really into fusion cuisine. I do really like their Brunch menu and think it is one of the best offerings in Wellington. Dinner was good but I would go back there for brunch sooner than dinner.
