Was walking through Capital Market and decided to give Lab 151 a try. Only noticed when writing this post why it is called Lab 151 and that is due to its street address 151 Willis Street. It has been at the market for around 6 months and because I felt like something different from the market I decided to give them a try.
Bao Buns
Hakka style grilled pork belly with garlic aioli, tomato slices, lettuce and coriander
These were presented nicely and looked really good to eat. They tasted really nice, but I don’t think the bread was all that fresh and not as spongy. The pork was not as tender as I thought it would be and was on the slightly dry side especially for a pork belly cut. The tomato and lettuce were fresh but did not see any coriander. Overall not bad if you didn’t know any different.
Bian Dang: Chicken Pops with an egg
I wanted this with a side of rice, but the rice was not ready. So I decided to go for an egg because I did not want to have it with salad. The egg was slightly overcooked for my liking and the yolk was not as runny as I thought it could have been. The chicken had a nice flavour and definitely had some five spice in there, but again was pretty average.
I don’t think I will go back to this place, to be honest. The food is not bad but there are stalls at the market that sell much better food in quality and flavour. I find it interesting that there was no rice ready just after midday but not interesting that there are not a lot of people ordering food from this stall.
