Walking around Tuam Street where we were staying and stumbled upon this place. When we walked in we couldn’t get a table but they suggested we go to Dux Dine and have a drink and they would give us a call when a table was ready. We only had to wait for around 20 minutes and we manage to get a table and was a great suggestion. The menu is very Asian but targeted at the European and trendy market and the price and decor slightly reflect that.

Beijing Duck Bao

This was good. I loved how the bao came open so you could see what was in it. There was a good size piece of duck with skin on it which was crisp. The filling was actually like Peking Duck however, it was in a bao. The hoisin sauce went nicely with the duck, cucumber and spring onions. Overall one of the best bao burgers I have had.

Xiao Long Bao

These looked really nice. However, all of them had burst before they had even come to the table so there was no soup inside the dumpling. The flavours were nice and loved the amount of filling inside of the dumpling. The skin was good and not too thick but no soup inside which was hugely disappointing.

Like a Pig in Chive

These were really nice. They looked good when they came to the table and of good size. The skin was crisp in places and had a nice flavour to them. However, for me, the filling was over mixed and the filling was close to being like a sausage texture. You could slightly taste the chives but could taste the ginger ginger. Overall the dumplings were not bad and went really well with soy sauce, mixed with their vinegar and chilli oil.

Porkie Coriander

Again they looked really good and were of good size. The texture of the filling was the same as the other dumplings which was not to my liking. The skins on both were of good thickness. You could definitely taste the coriander. Again a good dumpling but not necessarily to my liking.

Overall not a bad place to eat. I later discovered that this was the number one cheap eat place to eat in Christchurch on TripAdvisor. I am not entirely convinced but the place was popular. The service though was good and the food came out pretty fast. Maybe I am just too fussy towards Asian food.
