Sandwich Emporium is a relatively new place in Wellington selling rolls of smoked meat and also vegetarian options. It is at the very top of Cuba street, which I found really interesting as it is just that extra step to get there. The decor is really cool where you can play pinball while you wait for your sandwiches to be made. There are some seats and a bench to sit at but I presume most people will eat their rolls takeaway.

White Boy Bahn Mi


Smoked Pork Belly, Liver Pate, with Pickled Carrots and Corriander

I understand this is a “White boys” version so I am not really going to compare it to tradition Vietnamese bahn mi. The sandwich overall is really nice. The roll is more like a sandwich and is really chewy and soft. The smoked pork was really nice and had a good amount in the roll. The carrots were slightly too pickled for me and the carrot was sliced to thin. I prefer if they were thicker slices so you can taste the carrot and that the pickled flavour wasn’t so noticeable.

The big question I face myself is. Will I go back? To be honest, I am not sure. It is not the easiest place to get to as it is right at the top of Cuba Street and they have a limited sandwich option. I do feel it is a relatively selected market that they would attract as I feel most people would want a hot meal not necessarily a cold one. Maybe I might go back once to try another sandwich but I am not totally sure. The jury is still out on this one sorry.
