Fried Chicken has really always been my comfort food. However, I never really liked Original Recipe from KFC, I loved Hot n Spicy ever since I remember them offering it in the late 1990’s and I loved Fried Chicken when at Chinese Restaurants. I then went to America and discovered Southern Fried Chicken in the mid 2000’s and it has become one of my comfort foods. I discovered through a friend about Empire Chicken so I had to give it a try.
Currently, Empire Chicken is a hole in the hall on the exterior of the Riverside Market. However, it looks like they may be expanding next door offering Fried Chicken with Waffles and inside sitting so when I return to Christchurch I will have to try this place again.
I decided to order their Blue Burger; which has fried chicken, pickles, slaw and a blue cheese sauce and I decided to also just order a thigh piece to see what it is like by itself. Firstly, the piece of chicken was really nice and also came with their spicy aioli. It was crisp, moist and nicely seasoned. The Blue, was really good. I loved how you could actually taste the blue cheese and it went really well with the chicken, pickles and slaw.
Not surprisingly, I went back another day and decided to try the wings. I went a bit hard out and got them with their buffalo sauce and they also gave me some of their blue cheese sauce to go with it. They don’t necessarily look pretty and expect your fingers to get messy but they are bloody good.
