Another hawker stall that was on my list to visit. Since it’s a Bib Gourmand eatery, I thought, why not try it?

Thankfully, I went when I did, as they were about to close for the next two days for a deep clean. When I arrived, there was already a line, and I discovered that only one person does the cooking, with everything cooked to order. So, I ended up waiting in line for about 40 minutes to get my bowl of food.

When it was my turn to order, I got their Ji Ji Signature Char Siew Wanton Noodle ($5.50) and a side of dumplings with soup ($4).

It was fascinating watching the chef cook everything. She cooked the noodles first, then tossed them through the sauce before adding all the different elements on top. Another person helped her by weighing out the noodles and making sure everything was stocked so she could focus on cooking. She also took the orders, and payment was cash-only through a money machine.

Once I received my food, I found a seat and started digging in. You get two types of wanton: the deep-fried version and the boiled version. The bowl also comes with thin egg noodles, bok choy and some char siew.

This was a really good bowl of noodles. I loved the different textures throughout the dish once I mixed everything together. The wantons were on the smaller side, but I suppose that makes sense given the price and also means they can be cooked quickly. The char siew was super tasty, and once I added their house-made chilli sauce, wow, it all just worked. It was definitely worth the wait.

The dumplings were also really nice, filled with pork and coriander. The chef suggested I try them with the jalapeño peppers, or at least a pepper that looked very similar, and it was a really good combination. I think the jalapeños had been slightly sweetened, so they weren’t particularly spicy, but they worked incredibly well with the dumplings.

Overall, a really good bowl of noodles and well worth checking out if you’re in the area. If you do come, though, I recommend arriving early in the morning when they open. That way, you’ll have a much better chance of avoiding the queue.
