This is the second time I have visited Mama Brown.  I decided to go back as on Wednesday nights they have a two for one offer, if you say their special word “Double Chocolate Fudge Brownie”.  I am not entirely sure about the atmosphere about this place, but if the food is good and if their is a deal to be had, why complain.

Chicken & Waffles

I decided to give this a try as “Pepper Potts” enjoyed it previously and said that it was worth trying. I few observations about the dish first. I was surprised that maple syrup was already poured on top of my waffles and chicken, that the coleslaw was just finely cut cabbage and carrot without mayo or dressing and that their was only breast chicken meat and no thigh meat.  The waffles were spongy and had a good taste, the chicken was nice but I found it slightly dry as they only gave me breast meat. Also I did find it weird that their version of coleslaw was inside the waffle sandwich. Overall I would of just plated this dish differently, but tasted nice.

Chilli Cheese Fries

I was really disappointed with this dish. The fries were again soggy and not crisp. The cheese was just melted cheese and it became difficult to get a single chip and because the chips were soggy the dish became very hard to eat. Also because it was not a cheese sauce, the chilli just fall off the fries and ended on the bottom of the plate. The chilli (beef) sauce was alright, but a bit of salt on the fries does not go a miss.

Overall this place does a few dishes well and others badly.  I hate to say this, but I think the chef just cooks the food and doesn’t actually think about how to serve it.  The chef is good, but final execution is terrible. Maybe because they have become so popular because of their deals they feel they can do whatever they want.  I do not think I will go back and would either go to Hideaway or Five Boroughs for an American style feed.
