I was lucky enough to spot on Facebook that Nanny’s Food Truck was doing a tester run on their WOAP (Wellington on a Plate) burger for 2016. As I do not work in the city I organised Pepper Potts to go first and order and then my workmate and I arrived five minutes before the order was ready.
Mark 2.0
200g beef and lamb patty with cheese sauce, bacon, chipotle sauce, fried pickles, caramelized onion, homemade mayonnaise and fresh slaw on a Zaida’s milk bun, with fries
This burger was good. The beef and lamb patty was cooked very nicely with the cheese poured on the patty. The milk bun was grilled on the inside and the outside of the bottom bun. The fried pickles were very nice and added an interesting texture to the burger. The caramelised onion, mayonnaise and the fresh slaw was very nice. Also in the burger was a slice of granny smith apple and slices of peeled mandarin, which gave the burger a freshness taste to the burger. Overall a very good burger, that works very well. The burger also came with fries but I did not have them.
Poutine
I have always wanted to try Nanny’s Poutine. Every time I have tried to order it, it has not been on the menu. So when Pepper Potts sent me a photo of the menu I had to order it. The fries were nicely cooked and when you add the gravy and the cheese curd these fries were really nice and the best poutine I have tried in Wellington.
Popcorn Chicken
I also get these, so I could share them. These are really nice. Fried to perfection where the skin and batter is crispy, and the chicken was nicely cooked and not dry. The bbq sauce was nice and tangy and had a good spice to them and then with the coating of mayo was very nice.
Overall I really liked Nanny’s WOAP Burger and will be interesting to see what other eateries bring to the competition. My workmate that just recently moved to Wellington was really appreciative that I got him to come with me and he was really impressed with the Mark 2.0 and Nanny’s. Outside of WOAP, I think Nanny’s make the best burgers in Wellington and it is great to see them entering the competition.
